The design features the New Dungeness Lighthouse, which has stood watch over the strait (Juan de Fuca) since 1857. It is the oldest lighthouse on the strait and the second oldest in the state. The blue, curved stripes represent the strait’s waves breaking upon Dungeness Spit, which is one of the longest natural sand spits in the world.
